As the rice harvest concludes, the salt farmers of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar are back in action, initiating their intensive salt production season. Driven by favourable market conditions, thousands of farmers have taken the field.
Teknaf is currently selling locally produced salt for Tk. 300–310 per maund. The cost of production is estimated at around Tk. 150 per maund; farmers are optimistic about turning a profit this season.
Field visits reveal bustling activity across key salt-producing areas in Teknaf, including Hoyaikong, Katakhali, Lombabil, Unchiprang, Kanjorpara, Nayapara, Nayabazar, Minabazar, Wabrang, Sikdarpara, Rangikhali, Hnila, Leda, Moheshkhali, Jaddimura, Teknaf Sadar’s Chowdhuripara, Shah Porir Dwip, Nayapara, and Baharchhara Union’s Shilkhali.
Salt farmers are fully engaged, preparing their fields and laying the groundwork for another season of this vital industry, which remains a cornerstone of the local economy.
