Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, emphasized the vast potential of the blue economy in driving Bangladesh’s economic development, mainly through marine resources.

As the chief guest at a discussion with district officials in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday (December 29), Dr. Ahmed underscored the importance of promoting tourism as a vital contributor to the national economy.

“The tourism sector in Cox’s Bazar holds immense potential for economic growth. By leveraging its unique attractions and marine resources, we can significantly enhance the country’s economic landscape,” he said during the meeting, organized by the Cox’s Bazar district administration.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, was held at the Shahid ATM Zafar Alam Conference Hall in the DC office. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Md. Mokabbir Hossain attended as a special guest.

The session included input from district and law enforcement officials, journalists, and student representatives. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including developing the tourism industry in Cox’s Bazar, eliminating single-use plastics to protect the environment, improving health and education services, and addressing the challenges posed by the Rohingya crisis.

Dr. Ahmed provided strategic guidance to officials, highlighting the need for a coordinated effort to unlock Cox’s Bazar’s full potential as a tourism hub.
