A protest rally was held in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday demanding an end to child abduction, killing, rape and abuse and the punishment of those involved in recent child killings.
The protesters also voiced concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the district.
The rally was held at the Cox’s Bazar municipality premises in the afternoon under the banner of ‘Aggrieved Students and Cultural Organisations, Cox’s Bazar’.
Speakers at the rally demanded effective measures to ensure children’s safety and urged the administration to take a firm stance against child abduction, killing, rape and other forms of abuse.
They also called for those involved in recent child killings to be brought to justice promptly and given exemplary punishment.
Among those present were Jhinukmala Khelaghar president Ashraful Huda Siddiqui Jamshed, Satyen Sen Shilpigoshthi general secretary Monir Mobarak, Khelaghar organiser Rajib Deb Das, Jubo Union president Mosaddiq Hossain Abu, sports organiser Shahedul Islam, Chhatra Union president Antor Hasan Arif, Satyen Sen Shilpigoshthi member Sheikh Yunus and environmental activist Shaikh Abrar.
District Khelaghar president Subimal Pal Panna presided over the rally, while Muhaiminullah Ranim moderated it.
Speakers said ensuring children’s safety was one of the fundamental responsibilities of the state and society. They warned that criminals could become emboldened if incidents of violence against children were not investigated and prosecuted promptly.
They called on the authorities concerned to take effective measures to create a safe environment for children and improve the law and order situation in the district.
The rally ended with demands for ensuring children’s safety, stopping abduction, killing, rape and abuse, bringing those responsible for child killings to justice, and taking immediate steps to improve the law and order situation in Cox’s Bazar.
