As dawn breaks each day in the Daria Nagar area along Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive, the fishermen’s work begins. After returning from the sea with their catch, groups of fishermen are seen pulling boats and fishing nets toward the shore—a familiar scene captured on the Daria Nagar beach.

Locals say that during the winter season the sea remains relatively calm, creating favourable conditions for fishing.

At this time, fishermen head into deeper waters in small and medium-sized boats. Once fishing is over, the boats and nets are loaded together onto trolleys and hauled back to the shore through collective effort.

The image shows fishermen pulling boats barefoot across the sandy beach, moving in lines.

Some carry the weight of nets on their shoulders, others grip them tightly in their hands. Through such relentless physical labour, they earn their livelihood. The fishermen say that this daily fight is an important part of their lives.

The Daria Nagar coastline is not only a destination for tourists but also a vital space for the lives and livelihoods of fishermen.

Behind the vibrant image of Cox’s Bazar as a tourist city lies the quiet, unseen struggle of these labouring communities—a reality that unfolds every day along this stretch of the Marine Drive.
