Rapid Action Battalion-15 seized 619,600 yaba tablets during an anti-drug operation in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.
The operation was conducted around 1:40 am in the Sabran Bazarpara area of Ward 4 under Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila, RAB-15’s CPC-1 (Teknaf Camp) said.
Acting on a tip-off that drug traders had stored yaba in the area, a team of RAB conducted a raid.
When the team reached a brick-paved road beside a salt field belonging to one Maulana Firoz in Sabran Bazarpara, 8–10 unidentified suspected drug traders fled after sensing the presence of the law enforcement agency, RAB said.
They left behind four packets wrapped in old lungis as they fled.
The packets were searched in the presence of witnesses and 619,600 yaba tablets were recovered, RAB said.
The seized yaba was taken into custody following due procedure, while the tablets and other evidence were handed over to Teknaf Police Station for legal action against the fleeing suspects.
RAB said its anti-drug operations would continue.
