The lush hills of the area, locally known as Mini Bandarban, in Goalia village of Ukhiya upazila, Cox’s Bazar, have come alive with the arrival of the monsoon, as clusters of rain-soaked wild Queen’s crape myrtle flowers (Lagerstroemia speciosa) add vibrant shades of purple to the landscape.

Surrounded by verdant hills and dense vegetation, the blooming wildflowers have enhanced the area’s natural beauty. Rain-drenched blossoms and fresh green foliage have created a picturesque setting, attracting increasing numbers of nature lovers.

A visit to the area shows purple flowers blooming among the hillside shrubs, standing out against the lush greenery. The rain-washed blossoms appear almost like works of art, adding a distinctive charm to the hilly landscape.

Local resident Rabbi said the flower is commonly known as Bon Jarul (wild Queen’s crape myrtle), while in some parts of Ukhiya it is also referred to as Jongli Jarul.

He said the flowers bloom naturally across hills, shrubs and forested areas during the monsoon and are considered an important part of the region’s biodiversity in addition to enhancing its scenic beauty.

Nature enthusiasts said the combination of mist-covered green hills, drifting monsoon clouds and blooming wild flowers has transformed Mini Bandarban into one of the area’s most attractive seasonal destinations.

They added that the picturesque landscape has been drawing both local residents and tourists seeking to experience the region’s monsoon beauty.
