To promote local economic development, sustainable growth of the tourism sector, and enhanced private-sector participation in Cox’s Bazar, the Cox’s Bazar Municipality has organized a regional awareness seminar and training programme.
The event was inaugurated on Saturday by the chief guest, Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
More than two hundred participants—including officials from Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali, Teknaf, and Chakaria municipalities, business leaders, women entrepreneurs, students, and journalists—joined the programme.
The initiative was supported by the Local Economic Development Project—PRABRIDDHI, funded by the governments of Switzerland and Bangladesh and implemented by the Local Government Division and Swisscontact Bangladesh.
Shamim Al Imran, the Administrator of Cox’s Bazar Municipality and Deputy Director of Local Government, presided over the event. Special guests included Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Director General of the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Wing of the Local Government Ministry; ABM Shawkat Iqbal Shaheen, Director General (Additional Secretary), IMED; Dr. Munira Begum, Additional Secretary, General Economics Division (GED), Planning Commission; Dr. Roksana Tarannum, Joint Secretary, ERD; and Helal Hossain, Country Director of Swisscontact Bangladesh.
