In the scorching heat, refreshing green coconut water brings instant relief to both body and mind. This sweet, hydrating drink is highly beneficial, especially in the hot climate of Cox’s Bazar. However, not everyone is lucky enough to enjoy it, as coconut water has become quite a luxury due to rising prices in the city’s markets.
Small coconuts sell for Tk100-Tk120 each, while medium to large ones range from Tk140-Tk150. Vendors report that the intense heat has spiked demand for coconuts, which, despite adequate supply, has led to price increases.
Coconut seller Shahab Uddin said that despite the shortage of coconuts in rural areas, demand has significantly outstripped supply.
This demand surge, especially during peak tourist seasons, causes prices to rise further. He noted that the wholesale price of 100 coconuts has increased from around Tk8,000–Tk9,000 to Tk10,000–Tk12,000.
