Saikat Express’ and
The Ministry of Railways has introduced two new trains, ‘Saikat Express’ and ‘Probal Express,’ for regular Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route operations.
On Thursday, Deputy Secretary Kamrul Hasan informed Bangladesh Railway in an official letter about the decision.
ABM Kamruzzaman, Divisional Manager of the Railway’s Eastern Zone, told the media, “The two new trains will begin service on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route this month. However, we are awaiting final orders to determine the exact start date.”
Railway officials have announced that these two trains will replace the ‘Eid Special Nine,’ which debuted on April 8 for Eid-ul-Fitr last year. Public demand led to a temporary suspension of the exceptional service and its subsequent reinstatement.
Saikat Express will depart from Chattogram at 6:15 AM, reach Cox’s Bazar at 9:55 AM, and leave Cox’s Bazar at 8:15 PM, arriving in Chattogram at 11:50 PM.
Moreover, Probal Express will depart from Chattogram at 3:10 PM, arrive in Cox’s Bazar at 7:00 PM, leave at 10:35 AM, and reach Chattogram at 2:15 PM.
Both trains will remain closed on Mondays. Each train will consist of 16 coaches with a total seating capacity of 743, allowing 2,972 passengers to commute daily.
The long-awaited rail connection between Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar began on December 1, 2023, with the launch of the ‘Cox’s Bazar Express. ‘ In response to growing passenger demand, the ‘Parjatak Express’ was introduced on January 10, 2014.
