A seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) localisation was held in Cox’s Bazar, organised by the district administration and the District Statistics Office.
The seminar took place on Thursday morning in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The chief guest was Aleya Akter, secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division under the Ministry of Planning.
In her address, the secretary said that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals provide a comprehensive guideline for the country’s overall development. She emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among local authorities, public representatives, and civil society.
The seminar, chaired by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, was also addressed by Director General of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Farhad Siddique, additional secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division Mohammad Masud Rana Chowdhury, and additional superintendent of police Najmus Sakib Khan.
Speakers noted that the government is working to implement 234 unique indicators against 169 targets under the 17 goals declared by the United Nations. They added that comprehensive action plans have been adopted to achieve these targets.
They also stressed the need for stronger grassroots initiatives to ensure the successful implementation of SDG-related activities at the upazila level.
