A Math Olympiad was held in Palongkhali High School, Ukhiya Upazila, Cox’s Bazar for the first time. Organized by Shadow of Change, the day-long event took place on Tuesday, attracting young mathematics enthusiasts from the region.

The event’s chief guest, Md. Ullah, Upazila Secondary Education Officer of Ukhiya, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. “This is the first time I’ve seen such a Math Olympiad in Ukhiya. The Upazila administration hopes to encourage more such programs at the sub-district level. If we can expand these initiatives, students from remote areas will have greater opportunities to showcase and develop their talents,” he stated.

Abul Hashem Mahmud, Head Teacher of Palongkhali High School, presided over the event. Shah Jamal, Assistant Head Teacher of Balukhali Kashemia High School, and Sukhlal Das, Mathematics Teacher of Thaingkhali High School, were also present.

A total of 45 students, 15 from each of the three participating schools in Palongkhali Union, took part in a 30-minute competition. After rigorous evaluation, four winners were selected across different categories.

According to Kamran Ali Chowdhury Sohan, the event’s coordinator, the initiative started at the union level. It will gradually expand to upazila and district levels, aiming to make math competitions more accessible to rural students.
