Advocate Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, general secretary of Cox’s Bazar district BNP, has been nominated for a reserved women’s seat covering the Cox’s Bazar–Bandarban region.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday announced its final list of candidates for reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament.

The list was formally unveiled at noon at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Cox’s Bazar district BNP publicity secretary Professor Akhtar Chowdhury confirmed the nomination to Cox’s Bazar Life.

He said Swapna has served as the country’s first female public prosecutor and has been actively involved in BNP leadership and political movements for the past 18 years.

He added that her nomination reflects recognition of her role in anti-authoritarian movements and long-standing political contributions. The decision, he said, has received a positive response from party leaders, activists and residents of Cox’s Bazar.

He also expressed gratitude to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and party leader Salahuddin Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfor Rahman Kazal congratulated Shamim Ara Swapna in a Facebook post.
