Amid concerns over a possible storm, fishing boats and trawlers have been instructed to avoid venturing into deep sea and to remain near the coast. The directive was issued in a weather bulletin on Tuesday (15 July).
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a land depression over West Bengal and the southwestern coastal areas of Bangladesh has weakened into a well-marked low. It is currently positioned over Jharkhand and adjoining regions. Due to its impact, a steep pressure gradient persists over the northern Bay of Bengal.
The bulletin warned that squally winds may blow over the northern Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas of Bangladesh, and its maritime ports. As a precaution, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast until further notice.
