Sunshine returned to Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday after several days of relentless rain, bringing further improvement to the district’s flood situation and offering relief to thousands of affected residents.
The sky remained largely clear throughout the morning, while bright sunshine helped accelerate the recession of floodwaters from roads, residential areas and other low-lying parts of the district.
Normal activities also began to return gradually across the town and nearby areas.
Following days of torrential rain and flash flooding, the improved weather has allowed residents to clean their homes, assess damage and begin rebuilding their lives as water levels continue to fall.
Despite the improvement, many low-lying areas are still struggling with mud, damaged roads, shortages of safe drinking water and flood-damaged homes.
Officials say the agriculture and fisheries sectors, which suffered extensive losses during the floods, will require time to recover.
Residents expressed hope that the flood situation would continue to improve if the favourable weather persists over the coming days.
Meanwhile, after a meeting on the flood situation at the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner’s office, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said the government stood beside every flood-affected person.
He said government assistance would be delivered promptly to all those affected and that every necessary measure would be taken to help them return to normal life.
