On International Women’s Day, Team Jaba raised its voice against gender-based oppression, violence, and moral policing, calling for justice and accountability.
With this year’s theme, “Rights, Equality, and Empowerment: Advancing Women and Girls,” the group staged a peaceful demonstration, holding placards demanding justice for recent violence against women. They also urged authorities to take effective action against mob violence, threats, and retaliatory attacks targeting marginalized communities.
Protesters expressed deep concern over the continued inaction of authorities regarding cases of gender-based violence. They argued that the lack of exemplary punishment for offenders is fostering a culture where violence against women becomes normalized. “A society that fails to ensure women’s safety can never truly progress. We demand swift legal action and strict punishment for perpetrators,” stated a representative of Team Jaba.
The demonstrators called for speedy trials in cases of sexual violence, more decisive administrative action to prevent gender-based violence, and long-term policy measures to protect the rights of women and marginalized groups.
