Teen footballer Tarikul Islam Rakib, hailing from Hnila in Teknaf, has earned a place in the Under-17 Chattogram Divisional Football Team. Rakib was the only player selected from Cox’s Bazar district during the divisional-level trials held on Friday, where players from 11 districts competed for a spot on the team.
Rakib, a defender renowned for his astute game sense and technical ability, impressed the coaches and selectors with his performance, earning him a spot in the final squad. He is a regular player for Hnila Academy and currently studies in class 10 at Al Falah Academy, Hnila.
Rakib is the eldest son of Mohammad Hashem of Purbo Sikkdar Para in Hnila. His family has a strong sports background—Momtazul Islam Monu, his maternal uncle, is the chairman and editor-in-chief of Probal News. In contrast, Sirajul Islam Mangu, a well-known footballer, sports organizer, and director from Teknaf, is also a close relative.
Rakib’s achievement has sparked celebration and pride across the Hnila and Teknaf areas. Locals passionate about sports are hopeful that this young talent will soon represent the country on the national stage.
