Under the vast sky, with waves crashing and the scent of salt in the air, a unique kind of magic unfolds daily at a school in Kutubdia. Here, 25-year-old Mohammad Arif nurtures creativity in young minds, teaching them a distinctive art form in which the canvas isn’t limited to paper or paint—the leaves of banyan trees, soil, and other natural elements.

Arif’s journey began in 2014 when he first started painting on banyan leaves. Despite no formal fine arts training, his work radiates extraordinary creativity. He has created over 2,500 pieces of art using banyan leaves, earning him a unique identity in his community.

A Dream Takes Flight

In 2017, Arif established Borno Aka Art School to inspire children in Kutubdia, where access to art and culture was almost nonexistent. His initiative provided free training for underprivileged students and was a beacon of hope for the community. In 2021, the school evolved into the Kutubdia Academy of Fine Arts, a hub for nurturing the imaginations of young artists.

Every Friday, the academy hosts two training sessions, providing children a platform to pursue their artistic dreams for just 100 BDT.

Life Stories on Banyan Leaves

Arif’s art style captivates with its use of unconventional mediums. His creations on banyan leaves are visually appealing and convey profound stories about the connection between humanity and nature. His students have embraced this unique approach with wonder and enthusiasm.

A Spark of Change

The prospects for creative and technological advancement seemed bleak in a region like Kutubdia, which remained off the national power grid for over 45 years. However, Arif’s relentless efforts have demonstrated that determination and initiative can transform communities. His students now excel in local and district-level art competitions, making their mark in the world of creativity.

A New Generation of Artists

Initially, parents in Kutubdia saw little value in art education. Today, they proudly support their children’s dreams of becoming artists. Under Arif’s guidance, these young minds are learning to turn colors, brushes, and every element of nature into expressions of their imagination.

A Lighthouse of Creativity by the Sea

Mohammad Arif is more than just an art teacher; he’s a trailblazer. Through his banyan leaf paintings and unwavering dedication to nurturing young talents, Kutubdia has transformed into an island and a vibrant center of creativity.

Like the relentless waves of the sea, Arif’s dreams are unstoppable. He has transformed into a living canvas through his efforts, constantly painting new dreams.
