The Dhulkolmi tree is a unique marvel of nature, captivating people of all ages with its delicate charm. Its flowers, which have five soft lavender or pale pink petals, are particularly abundant during autumn and winter, although they bloom year-round.
The funnel-shaped blossoms and arranged in four to eight clusters are a haven for nectar-seeking black bumblebees. Known for its rapid growth, the Dhulkolmi tree quickly transforms into a dense thicket, enhancing natural beauty while playing a critical role in preventing soil erosion.
The Dhulkolmi tree offers numerous environmental benefits, including combating soil erosion, fencing for agricultural lands, and firewood for households. Moreover, the tree is highly resilient to drought and floods.
Despite its ecological value, the Dhulkolmi tree was once the center of a widespread panic. In the 1990s, rumors spread that insects living on the tree were highly venomous, capable of causing fatal bites or skin contact reactions. Subsequent investigations revealed that the insects were harmless.
The Dhulkolmi also serves as a shelter for various creatures and enhances the aesthetics of rural landscapes.
