Once a reliable source of drinking water in remote areas, the tradition of well digging has almost disappeared. With the advent of modern water supply systems, this sustainable yet old practice has faded into history. Recently, in the Garjan Bagan area of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, a century-old abandoned well, still stands as a relic of the past. Resident Moni Begum shared that the well is now a tourist attraction and is no longer used for drawing water. In earlier times, it was the only water source for everyone living in the nearby forest settlements.
