October 25 marks International Artist Day, a celebration created to honor artists in all forms—from visual artists and musicians to dancers, writers, and actors. It recognizes artists’ significant role in shaping culture and society and encourages communities to engage with and support the arts.

On this occasion, Cox’s Bazar Life reached out to five young artists from Cox’s Bazar to hear their reflections on the day.

Representing acting, dance, singing, painting, and recitation, these artists shared what it means to them to pursue their craft.

Actor Zainal Jack

“I learned dark comedy from Mosharraf Karim, which is a major influence in my work. Hailing from Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar, I deeply appreciate my local dialect and heritage. I’ve tried to bring these elements into my performances on stage and OTT platforms to showcase the beauty of my region.”

Dancer Ima

“Being a dancer is a source of pride for me. My teacher, Piyal Das Eni, guided my learning from the age of five. When I was in fifth grade, I won first place in a children’s day event on March 17, which took me to Dhaka National. That day shaped my goal of pursuing dance, and today, I am a dance teacher myself. May all artists thrive.”

Singer Saikat Dhar

“Music flows from within, so I keep honing my craft. I’ve performed a few original songs, which people have appreciated and connected with. I hope my music reaches more hearts, and may our country hold artists in higher regard.”

Reciter Rahman Shrestha

“Poems like Kazi Nazrul’s Bidrohi and Nirmalendu Goon’s Since Then, Freedom Became Our Word stir something deep within every reciter. These readings introduced me to the art of recitation, which, like dance and music, has the power to uplift. I offer my heartfelt greetings to all artists on this International Artist Day, hoping the world revives through the elegance of art.”

Painter Mizanur Rahman

“On International Artist Day, I reflect on how, if I weren’t an artist, this day would hold no special recognition for me. As an artist, I’ve received more respect and gratitude than I could have hoped for. My best wishes go to everyone with an artistic spirit—may all artists find joy and appreciation in their journey.”
