Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the fire at Tuptup Resto and Resort in Inani, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, and directed the Bangladesh Tourism Board to take three urgent measures to ensure tourists’ safety and prevent similar incidents.
The Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry disclosed the directives in a press release on Saturday.
The minister conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed in the fire at the resort in Patwartek, beside the Inani Marine Drive. Describing the tragedy as deeply distressing, Millat stressed the importance of standing beside those affected and maintaining coordinated efforts among all agencies involved in rescue operations.
Under the first directive, the Bangladesh Tourism Board has been asked to send a team to the site to assess the situation, determine the extent of the damage and provide necessary assistance to tourists.
The second directive calls for an emergency meeting involving the local administration, law enforcement agencies, and tourism-sector stakeholders to ensure tourists’ overall safety. The minister also emphasised the need to implement the meeting’s recommendations promptly.
Under the third directive, the board has been instructed to arrange specialised training on fire safety and emergency rescue operations for employees at tourist facilities, in cooperation with the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The minister prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and asked Almighty Allah to grant their bereaved families the strength to endure their irreparable loss.
