In a move to curb tourist exploitation, Additional DIG of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police, Apel Mahmud, administered an oath to beach photographers, horse riders, beach bikers, jet ski operators, and beach chair rental providers, pledging not to charge excessive fees.

The oath-taking ceremony took place on Monday (April 7) at the Tourist Police office near Laboni Point during a discussion meeting to prevent tourist harassment.

The pledge stated:
“We solemnly swear that we will not charge tourists any extra fees beyond the fixed rates for photography, horse riding, or beach biking. Overcharging is a legal offense, and if we engage in such practices, we accept that legal action should be taken against us. Cox’s Bazar is our pride, and we are committed to ensuring a hassle-free experience for tourists.”

Addressing the attendees, ADIG Apel Mahmud warned that any unauthorized charges beyond fixed rates would be treated as extortion, leading to legal action. He specifically mentioned that photographers must not take extra shots beyond what was agreed upon.

To enforce these regulations, a 10-member anti-harassment team has been formed. This team, comprising two inspectors and two sub-inspectors, will monitor beach operators and take immediate legal action against anyone exploiting tourists, including photographers, beach bike operators, jet ski providers, and unauthorized hawkers.
