Cox’s Bazar sweltered under intense heat throughout Friday, with the temperature rising to 34°C. Yet the scorching weather failed to deter tourists, as thousands flocked to the beach during the weekly holiday.
The beach areas at Kolatoli, Sugandha and Laboni points became crowded with tourists on Friday afternoon. Despite the heat, tourists from different parts of the country took to the sea and spent time bathing and relaxing in the water.
Many stayed in the sea for extended periods, while others sought relief from the heat by sitting under beach umbrellas or on chairs. Some tourists also enjoyed jet skiing, horse riding and beach-bike rides.
Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said a low-pressure system could form within the next three to four days, which may bring changes in the weather.
Cox’s Bazar received 14mm of rainfall on Thursday, he said.
“The highest temperature in Cox’s Bazar was 33°C on Thursday. It rose to 34°C on Friday,” Hannan said.
Meanwhile, lifeguards remained on duty as large numbers of tourists gathered on the beach despite the intense heat.
Mohammad Osman, supervisor and senior lifeguard of Sea-Safe, said the beach experienced severe heat on Friday, but many tourists still came.
“Lifeguards are remaining alert and carrying out their duties so that tourists do not get into trouble while entering the sea,” he said.
