Kolatoli Point in Cox’s Bazar Beach, one of the first stops for tourists entering the coastal city, is witnessing an alarming rise in litter. When visitors leave their vehicles, they become engrossed in the mesmerizing sea view—but many leave behind a trail of plastic wrappers, water bottles, disposable cups, and other waste.
Despite regular beach cleanups supervised by the Cox’s Bazar District Administration’s Beach Management Committee, the issue persists. Sanitation workers remove trash daily, yet litter piles up, carried by the wind and waves.
Officials stress that raising tourist awareness is crucial.
“No matter how frequently we clean, the beach gets polluted again because visitors themselves discard waste into the sea. There are designated dustbins placed behind the umbrellas. If everyone uses them, the beach will remain clean,” a concerned official stated.
