A tree plantation programme was inaugurated in Kutubdia on Thursday with a call to strengthen environmental conservation and address the impacts of climate change.
Kutubdia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mizanur Rahman formally launched the programme at the Muralia embankment area in the Boroghop Union.
The initiative was organised by the Upazila Project Implementation Office.
Among others present at the event were Boroghop Union Parishad chairman A N M Shahid Uddin Choton, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Iqbal Hasan, Kutubdia Upazila Sports Association member secretary Abul Kashem, panel chairman Touhidul Islam, government officials, and local dignitaries.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mizanur Rahman said there was no alternative to tree plantation for maintaining ecological balance, mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, and expanding green cover.
He urged people to plant more trees and ensure their proper care in their respective areas.
The upazila project implementation officer said that under the programme, saplings of various fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal tree species would be planted along important roads in Boroghop, Ali Akbar Deil and Lemshikhali unions.
He expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to environmental protection and enhance greenery across the upazila.
