Two massive coral fish, weighing a total of 34.5 kilograms, were caught in a fisherman’s hook in the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The larger fish weighed 22 kilograms, while the smaller weighed 12 kilograms. The pair was initially priced at Tk 50,000 but later sold for Tk 41,000.
Fisherman Nur Mohammad from the South Para area of Shah Porir Dwip in Sabrang Union made the catch on Saturday (August 9) afternoon. He sold the fish to Nurul Alam, a trader based in Teknaf municipality, for Tk 1,200 per kilogram.
Nur Mohammad said he had been fishing with hooks in the Gholar Char area of the Naf River estuary since morning. After about three hours, he felt an unusually heavy pull on the line and sought help from another fisherman. Together, they reeled in a 12-kilogram coral fish.
Encouraged, he cast his hook again but failed three times. On the fourth attempt, he landed an even bigger prize — a 22-kilogram coral fish.
