In line with the nationwide initiative, a typhoid vaccination campaign is set to launch in Ukhiya from September, with support from the Ministry of Health. The campaign aims to protect children from typhoid fever, particularly those aged between 9 months and 15 years.

The Ukhiya Upazila Health Department has already started preparatory activities, including awareness drives and community outreach, to ensure widespread participation.

Speaking about the campaign, Dr. Nasrin Zebin, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said:

“The government has taken the initiative to vaccinate all eligible children in schools and communities. Just a single dose of the TCV (Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine) offers strong and long-lasting protection against typhoid.”

She added that the vaccine, provided through Gavi, is known for its enhanced immunity and offers better protection than previous typhoid vaccines.

Health officials are urging parents and guardians to actively participate and ensure their children receive the vaccine during the upcoming campaign, which is considered a vital step in reducing the burden of typhoid in the region.
