Certain wildflowers bloom along roadsides and open fields as spring arrives, effortlessly capturing attention. One such flower is Banjui or Ghetu, commonly known as Vati Phool. These flowers flourish along Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive, adding charm to the natural landscape.

Thriving in bushes, forests, and roadside areas, the Vati flower spreads its fragrance while showcasing its delicate beauty. Locally in Cox’s Bazar, it is widely recognized as “Vatiphool.”

The Vati plant stands upright with a central stem and grows 2 to 4 meters tall. Its leaves resemble betel leaves in shape but have a rough texture. Flowers bloom at the tips of the branches, releasing a sweet fragrance, especially at night. The flowering season spans spring to summer, attracting bees that collect nectar from the blossoms.

Scientifically known as Clerodendrum viscosum, this remarkable wildflower continues to captivate passersby and enhance the scenic beauty of Marine Drive.
