Observed worldwide on October 29, World Stroke Day seeks to increase public awareness about stroke prevention and management, with this year’s theme being #GreaterThanStroke.

Marking the day, Dr. Shaheen Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, a specialist in medicine, diabetes, arthritis, and cardiology, shared his message with Cox’s Bazar Life on stroke awareness.

He explained that a blockage or rupture in a blood vessel can disrupt blood flow to the brain, potentially causing paralysis in one or more parts of the body.

Dr. Shaheen emphasized that untreated conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure significantly raise the risk of stroke. This risk is further increased by lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol consumption, drug misuse, poor diet, and lack of sleep.

To prevent strokes, Dr. Shaheen recommends following a balanced diet, exercising regularly, consulting doctors frequently, and managing chronic illnesses.
