Border Guard Bangladesh has arrested two people and seized 100,000 yaba tablets in a special patrol operation in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

The detainees were identified as Bhutto, 38, son of Nurul Alam, and Amir Hamza, 26, son of Abdul Karim, both residents of Nalbonia Bucharguna village in Ukhiya.

According to BGB, a special patrol team of Palangkhali Border Outpost under Ukhiya Battalion-64 BGB spotted two men entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar side carrying bags near Saiful Basar’s enclosure in Faisyakhal area of Anjumanpara at around 1:10 am on Tuesday.

When the patrol team challenged them, the two men allegedly attempted to flee but were detained.

A search of the bags recovered 10 cartons containing 100,000 yaba tablets wrapped in khaki-colored packets, according to BGB.

During preliminary questioning, the detainees allegedly told BGB that they had purchased the yaba from the Myanmar border area and were carrying it for resale at a higher price.

Ukhiya Battalion commander Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam said intelligence surveillance had been strengthened to identify and bring drug suppliers and other smugglers involved in the trafficking under the law.

He said BGB would continue operations against drug trafficking and smuggling along the border.
