The upazila fisheries office seized 400 metres of illegal fishing nets during a drive in Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar, on Monday to protect mother hilsa and ensure their safe migration and breeding.
The operation was conducted on October 26 with assistance from Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Surma. Authorities later burned and destroyed the seized nets in public.
Cox’s Bazar District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Nazmul Huda confirmed the development, saying such drives would continue to ensure the unhindered movement and safe migration of mother hilsa and protect their breeding.
