According to the latest report from the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), 64,718 Rohingyas have newly entered Bangladesh.
Published on Thursday (December 26), the report reveals that over the past few months, camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf have welcomed 17,478 forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDMNs), also known as Rohingyas, from 17,478 families.
Moreover, the report notes that 44 individuals from the Chakma community and two from the Barua community have sought refuge in a primary school in Ukhiya after fleeing Myanmar.
The Arakan Army is an insurgent group fighting the country’s military junta for territorial control in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. Earlier this month, the Arakan Army claimed to have taken control of the entire Myanmar side of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, spanning approximately 271 kilometers. Shortly thereafter, the group announced the capture of the junta’s Western Regional Military Command headquarters.
Thailand’s Foreign Minister, Don Pramudwinai, chaired an informal consultative meeting among six nations last week in Bangkok.
Following the meeting, Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser, Mohammad Touhid Hossain, briefed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating, “Corruption at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border is exacerbating Rohingya infiltration. Due to these irregularities, preventing entry through various land and sea routes has become increasingly difficult.”
