Former Member of Parliament Lutfur Rahman Kajol said the role of the media is crucial in promoting tourism, emphasizing that there is no alternative to the media when it comes to portraying a tourist destination accurately and effectively.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion titled “The Role of Media in the Development of the Tourism Industry”, held at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar on Friday evening.

Highlighting the importance of engaging local communities in tourism, Kajol noted that unlocking Cox’s Bazar’s immense tourism potential requires both major initiatives and small, targeted actions. “Tourism can significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth if we take the right steps in the right direction,” he said.

The event was part of the Tourism and Film Festival 2025 and the Aviation and Tourism Excellence Awards, presided over by Salam Mahmud, Secretary General of the Global Aviation and Tourism Journalists Association.

Prominent attendees included media personality Alhaj Abdur Rahman, actor Ustad Jahangir Alam, renowned film actress Rozina, and Al Masud Khan, Deputy General Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

As part of the program, writer, researcher, and journalist Azad Monsur was awarded the Aviation and Tourism Excellence Award for his research on the country’s media landscape. Several other distinguished individuals were also recognized across different award categories.
