In a sweeping operation aimed at dismantling drug networks and curbing abductions, a 467-member joint task force led by RAB, supported by police, army, BGB, navy, APBn, the Department of Narcotics Control, and the Forest Department, conducted a major raid in the remote hill forests of Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

Launching the operation on Thursday morning (May 8), the joint forces moved into Teknaf’s rugged Rangikhali forest area.

At a post-operation press conference, RAB-15 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Md Kamrul Hasan revealed that around 40 abduction cases had been reported across the district in the past three months—more than 30 of which occurred in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

Intelligence reports indicate that victims were often held deep within the forests of Jaliapalong, Shamlapur, Kutumghu in Ukhiya and Rangikhali, Alikhali, and Jaliapara in Teknaf—areas previously considered unreachable by law enforcement.

“These remote jungle hideouts had become safe havens for abductors and criminals,” Kamrul Hasan said. “With this operation, we’ve sent a clear message—we now control the hills.”
