After nearly 42 hours of suspension, Sea-truck boat services on the Cox’s Bazar–Maheshkhali waterway have resumed. Early Saturday morning at 6 AM, a Sea-truck departed from Nuniachara ghat in Cox’s Bazar, carrying passengers toward Maheshkhali.
The service had been halted since Thursday noon due to adverse weather conditions, when all types of water transport, including Sea-trucks, were suspended.
While Sea-truck operations have recommenced, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) confirmed that other vessels such as speedboats and wooden boats remain prohibited from operating on this route for safety reasons.
The suspension of water transport caused significant hardship for residents of Maheshkhali, an island upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Traveling to Cox’s Bazar town requires crossing just 8.5 kilometers by water; however, with the waterway closed, locals had to take a detour of nearly 100 kilometers by road to reach the district headquarters.
