The 7th National Surfing Competition has been postponed due to inclement weather conditions that have persisted at Cox’s Bazar’s Kolatoli Point over the past three days.
Bangladesh Surfing Association’s General Secretary, Moazzem Hossain Chowdhury, confirmed the decision on Saturday (May 31) afternoon.
He stated that approximately 150 male and female surfers had registered for the competition, initially planned for May 30 and 31 under the initiative of the Bangladesh Surfing Association. This year’s event also featured a special segment for international participants.
“However,” Moazzem Hossain explained, “over the last three days, Cox’s Bazar has been experiencing strong winds, heavy rain, and rough seas, making it unsuitable for surfing.”
He added, “We waited until Saturday afternoon to see if conditions would improve, but since the situation did not normalize, we consulted with everyone involved and made the decision to postpone the competition.”
Moazzem Hossain further noted that a new date for the competition would be decided by the Bangladesh Surfing Association’s new committee after due discussion.
