Despite the active monsoon and a cautionary signal no. 3 issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the Cox’s Bazar Sea Beach remained lively on Tuesday (June 17), with tourists embracing the rain and rough sea in full spirits.
The alert, prompted by dense thunderclouds over the northern Bay of Bengal and coastal regions, applies to four seaports, including Cox’s Bazar. However, from morning till evening, large crowds were seen enjoying themselves at the Kolatoli, Sugandha, and Laboni points along the beach—many ignoring the drizzle and diving into the roaring waves.
Lifeguard teams were actively patrolling the area, issuing warnings through megaphones, whistles, and hand signals. Though tourists are only allowed in knee-deep water, many were seen disregarding the safety guidelines.
“The sea is rough under Signal No. 3, yet tourists are still entering the water,” said Mohammad Yusuf Ali, a lifeguard. “We’re doing our best to keep everyone safe and only allowing shallow access. But we urge all visitors to stay alert and follow our instructions.”
Residents have expressed concern about the increasing carelessness of tourists in such weather conditions and have called on the authorities to enforce stricter safety measures to prevent potential accidents.
