On Friday afternoon, a dead spinner dolphin was found floating near Sonarpara Beach in Cox’s Bazar.
Tariqul Islam, a senior scientific officer of the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) said that the dolphin measures 8 feet in length, with a tail length of 1.5 feet, a dorsal fin length of 8 inches, a pectoral fin length of 10.5 inches, a lip length of 5 inches, and a mouth length of 10 inches.
The distance from the tip of the lip to the eye is 11.5 inches, as is the distance between the two eyes.
The dolphin’s middle width measures 2.8 feet and weighs approximately 95 kilograms.
Upon initial examination, no visible injuries or signs of decomposition were found on the dolphin’s body, he added.
He also said that it is believed that the female dolphin may have died within the last 20-24 hours from starvation after being unable to hunt for an extended period.
After a post-mortem examination, the dolphin has been preserved at the Bangladesh Marine Research Institute’s Museum.
