A special campaign to eliminate environmentally harmful trees has officially begun in Chakaria upazila. This initiative, aimed at preventing the cultivation of destructive plants, was jointly launched by the upazila administration and the agricultural department.

The formal inauguration took place on Thursday, July 10, at a nursery in Pucchalia Para, BMchar Union, where the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Mohammad Atikur Rahman, led the opening ceremony.

On the inaugural day, a large quantity of saplings of Akashmoni and Eucalyptus trees, both government-prohibited species, were destroyed in the nursery.

Experts have pointed out that these two tree species are extremely harmful to the soil and the environment.

The ceremony was also attended by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Rupayan Deb, Upazila Agricultural Officer Ferdausi Jahan, Forest Officer of Fasiakhali Range Md. Meheraz Uddin, and Sub-assistant Plant Protection Officer of the Agricultural Department Md. Mahiduddin, along with various other departmental officials.

The upazila administration has announced that regular operations to prevent the cultivation of such harmful and unsuitable plants will continue, alongside ongoing public awareness campaigns aimed at safeguarding the environment and maintaining soil balance.
