Eidgaon bowed out of the District Commissioner Gold Cup Tournament after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to defending champions Moheshkhali.

The high-voltage clash occurred on Thursday (September 4) at the Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium, where Moheshkhali edged past 4–2 in penalties.

Before kickoff, Moheshkhali was considered the favorite, with many dismissing Eidgaon’s chances.

However, the spirited debutants proved the doubters wrong, assembling a youthful side bolstered by three foreign recruits.

Their resilience in midfield and defense frustrated the reigning champions, forcing a goalless first half.

The second half only raised the intensity. With attack and counterattack, the game turned into a fierce battle, amplified by the crowd’s roar blending with the crashing waves nearby.

Both teams created scoring opportunities, but neither could find the breakthrough before the referee’s final whistle, leaving the match tied 0–0.

The drama unfolded in the tie-breaker. Two of Eidgaon’s foreign players failed to convert, their shots brilliantly denied by Moheshkhali’s goalkeeper Saeedi, who emerged as the night’s hero.

Though Eidgaon’s keeper managed to save one, it wasn’t enough to escape defeat. Moheshkhali sealed victory 4–2, sparking celebrations among their players and fans.

Saeedi’s heroics earned him the “Man of the Match” award, which was handed over by Md. Alauddin, member secretary of the District Sports Association’s ad hoc committee, along with technical committee members Iqbal Mohammad Shamsul Huda Tidal, Afsar Uddin, Khorshed Alam, Sarwar Roman, Masud Alam, and Muhammad Hossain.

On Friday (September 5) at 3 pm, Sadar Upazila will face Ukhiya Upazila in the next fixture.
