During the conversation, Professor Yunus expressed his gratitude to Türk and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for their support of the Bangladesh student revolution and their advocacy for student rights amid the unprecedented violence against protesters. The 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate emphasized that human rights will be the cornerstone of his administration, with the protection of every citizen as the government’s top priority.
The UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Türk, called Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday, according to a press release from the chief adviser’s office.
Türk announced that a UN-led investigation would soon be launched to probe the killing of protesters during the Student Revolution, with a team of UN experts set to visit the country to establish the investigation.
Professor Yunus also sought UN cooperation in rebuilding the country and upholding human rights.
