With the national parliamentary election approaching, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced its initial list of candidates for 237 constituencies on Monday.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the list public at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan.

The BNP has named candidates for three of the four constituencies in Cox’s Bazar, but has not yet announced the nominee for Cox’s Bazar-2 (Moheshkhali–Kutubdia).

According to the list, Salauddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s National Standing Committee, will contest from Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua).

Lutfur Rahman Kajol, the party’s Fisheries Affairs Secretary, has been nominated for Cox’s Bazar-3 (Sadar, Ramu, Eidgaon), and Shahjahan Chowdhury, President of Cox’s Bazar District BNP, will run from Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhiya–Teknaf).

Speaking at the event, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the BNP considers this election an integral part of its ongoing movement to restore democracy and ensure the people’s right to vote.

He added that capable and popular leaders have been nominated to represent the party.

Party sources further said that candidates for the remaining constituencies will be finalized and announced in phases.
