With the arrival of winter, Cox’s Bazar’s main market has transformed into a vibrant display of seasonal produce. Stalls are overflowing with freshly harvested vegetables in a spectrum of colors, and from early morning, shoppers are crowding in to buy their favorites.
A walk through the market reveals stalls filled with cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, radish, tomatoes, beans, bottle gourd, and other fresh winter vegetables. The entire area is filled with the earthy aroma of new-season produce.
According to vegetable vendor Arifullah, prices have remained relatively stable despite some fluctuations. Currently, cauliflower is selling at Tk 50–60 per piece, cabbage at Tk 40–50, carrots at Tk 60–70 per kg, radish at Tk 30–40, tomatoes at Tk 80–90, beans at Tk 70–80, bottle gourd at Tk 50–60, and eggplant at Tk 50 per kg.
Vendors expect that supply will increase further in the coming weeks, which may bring prices down and make vegetables even more affordable for regular buyers.
Shoppers, on the other hand, say the freshness and flavor of new-season vegetables make them worth buying. “The taste and aroma of these winter vegetables are simply different,” said one buyer. “The prices are reasonable now, but if they drop a little more, everyone will be able to buy their favorites comfortably.”
