Jamal Hossain Rupom, 40, expressed the struggle and resilience behind his daily life, saying, “For me, when the wheel of the sewing machine turns, the wheel of my family keeps moving too.” For the past 15 years, he has depended solely on his sewing machine to earn a steady living.

Each day, Rupom sets off to work with a small Singer sewing machine on Anderson Road in the city. Though he lives permanently in the Noorpara area, not finding a larger, more stable job has pushed him to hold onto this modest profession.

In conversation, he shared that he is the father of two sons, both of whom are currently studying, and his income from the sewing machine entirely supports their education.

Rupom said work is not as available as it used to be. Many hours of his day pass in quiet waiting. Yet he remains undiscouraged.

“I am grateful to Allah,” he said, “that I can still live with dignity and provide for my family, even if it’s modest.”
