The namaj-e-janaza of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi was held at the South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban in the capital Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, along with advisers, senior government officials, various political leaders, and hundreds of thousands of people in attendance.

Mourners from all walks of life offered prayers seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of Shaheed Hadi as they burst into tears, being emotional over Hadi’s untimely demise.

Hadi’s elder brother, Mawlana Dr Abu Bakar Siddique, administered his namaj-e-janaza.

Meanwhile, a ghaibana (in absentia) janaza was also held in Cox’s Bazar, with a large turnout from all walks of life, including political leaders and activists.

The janaza was held at 4:00 pm at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Cox’s Bazar.

Before the prayer, a brief discussion was held, during which speakers recalled the contributions of Shaheed Hadi and prayed for his salvation.

After the prayer, special supplications were offered for the deceased and the nation.

In Dhaka, Prof Yunus spoke on the occasion, and Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain also addressed and read out the biography of Shaheed Hadi.

Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber also spoke on the occasion.

The South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban and the entire Manik Mia Avenue witnessed a mixed scenario of emotion and resistance as some were chanting slogans against fascism and hegemony, as well as demanding a trial for Hadi’s killing.

Following the namaz-e-janaza, Osman Hadi was laid to eternal rest beside the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near the Dhaka University Central Mosque at around 3:50 pm.

Hadi’s coffin, wrapped in the national flag, was taken to the grave at about 3:18 pm. Prayers and Fateha were offered after the burial for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Sharif Osman Hadi, the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, was shot on December 12 while he was on a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the city’s Paltan area.

He was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Evercare Hospital on the same day as his condition deteriorated.

On December 15, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance for better treatment, where he succumbed to his bullet injuries on Thursday night, casting a shadow of grief over the entire nation.

Hadi, also an aspiring independent candidate for Dhaka-8, is regarded as “an immortal soldier of the struggle against fascism and hegemony.”
