Adilur Rahman Khan, the Adviser on Housing and Public Works, Industries, Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, stated on Sunday that the sacrifices of the July martyrs and the contributions of the July fighters had given birth to a new Bangladesh.
Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Saturday said that the sacrifices of the July martyrs and the contributions of the July fighters had given birth to a new Bangladesh.
To sustain this change, he urged citizens to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum scheduled for February 12.
He made the remarks in the morning while speaking as the chief guest at a public awareness meeting on the referendum, organised by the Cox’s Bazar district administration at the Public Library hall.
The adviser said that abductions, so-called crossfire killings, and secret detention facilities would no longer be tolerated in Bangladesh.
‘We want a discrimination-free and fascism-free country where people of all ethnic communities will enjoy equal rights,’ he said.
Adilur Rahman Khan further said that the people’s procession stood in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote, the July Charter, and the new Bangladesh.
Alongside voting for candidates of choice in the national parliamentary election, he called on voters to cast their ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum on February 12.
The meeting, chaired by Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Md Abdul Mannan, was also addressed by local government secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, superintendent of police ANM Sajedur Rahma,n and press club president Mahbubur Rahman.
Officials from government and non-government offices, teachers, students, civil society representatives, and people from various professions were present at the event.
After the meeting, the adviser inaugurated the referendum campaign vehicle at the district administration compound.
Responding to journalists’ questions later, Adilur Rahman Khan said that ordinary people had taken a stand in favour of ‘Yes’ as they opposed fascism.
‘Those who support fascism will campaign for “No”, while those who stand for people’s rights and oppose enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings will vote “Yes”,’ he said, adding that the referendum aimed to establish the July Charter.
