“Amar bhaiyer rokte rangano Ekushey February, ami ki bhulite pari”—as the colours of Falgun blend with the gentle breeze of spring, Amar Ekushey February returns once again.

Marking a symbol of Bengali identity, language, and dignity, extensive preparations are underway in Cox’s Bazar and across the country to observe the day with due respect.

Saturday will see the observance of Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, commemorating 74 years since the historic Language Movement.

To pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of their mother tongue, preparations have already been completed at the Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar.

To pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of their mother tongue, preparations have already been completed at the Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar.

The Central Shaheed Minar premises have been adorned with colourful alpana designs. Renovation and fresh coats of paint have given the monument a renewed appearance.

With the break of dawn, the area is expected to be filled with tribute and remembrance as people gather to lay wreaths.

The administration, political, social, and cultural organisations, educational institutions, and people from all walks of life will place floral tributes in memory of the language martyrs.

The day will also be marked by prabhat pheris (early morning processions), discussion meetings, poetry recitations, and cultural programmes.

The Language Movement of 1952 remains a glorious chapter in Bengali history. The sacrifice of students who demanded recognition of Bangla as a state language is still impacting the nation.

That movement laid the foundation of Bengali self-identity and later became a stepping stone toward the Liberation War.

Today, Ekushey is not merely a date—it is a symbol of consciousness, protest, and self-respect.

Various educational institutions, government and private offices, and cultural organisations in Cox’s Bazar have already announced their own programmes.

Banners and festoons have been displayed along major roads and at important establishments, reflecting the day’s emotional significance.

On this spring day, the spirit of Ekushey—stained with the blood of martyrs—will once again reaffirm its eternal place in the hearts of Bengalis.

Cox’s Bazar stands ready to observe Amar Ekushey February with respect, love, and renewed commitment, alongside the rest of Bangladesh.
