A large dead dolphin has washed ashore at the Sugandha point of Cox’s Bazar Sea Beach.
The partially decomposed dolphin was found lying on the sand on Saturday morning at the Sugandha Point area.
Lifeguard Jayanal Abedin Bhuttu, who was on patrol at the beach, said they noticed the dolphin while conducting routine monitoring in the morning. After the news spread, local residents and some tourists gathered at the spot to see the dead marine animal.
“We spotted the dolphin lying on the sandy shore in a half-decomposed condition at Sugandha point in the morning,” he said, adding that the dolphin was estimated to be more than six feet long.
Many beachgoers expressed curiosity and surprise after seeing the lifeless body of the dolphin that had apparently drifted ashore with the waves.
However, the exact cause of the dolphin’s death could not be immediately confirmed, which has sparked discussions among locals.
According to local residents, the washing ashore of dead marine animals is not uncommon along the coast. Experts say dolphins may die due to entanglement in fishing nets, marine pollution, collisions with vessels, or natural causes.
