Syed Ibrahim Ahmed from Cox’s Bazar has been included in the newly formed 11-member ad hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, following the dissolution of its previous board by the National Sports Council.

Known as a “son of the sea,” Syed Ibrahim Ahmed is a familiar name in local political circles. Observers say his appointment reflects a shift toward including voices from coastal and peripheral regions, which have historically had limited representation in central sports governance.
He comes from a politically prominent family and is the son of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and former lawmaker Hasina Ahmed. He works as a teacher at a private university.
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the chairman of the ad hoc committee. The committee’s key responsibility is to organise elections for the cricket board within the next three months and restore transparency and dynamism to its operations.
Analysts believe that Syed Ibrahim Ahmed’s inclusion could create new opportunities for the development of cricket in Cox’s Bazar and other coastal areas. His role may be significant in strengthening grassroots infrastructure, scouting talent, and promoting sports linked to tourism.
