The Border Guard of Bangladesh has distributed free medical services, medicines, food items, and sports equipment among underprivileged and marginalised people on St. Martin’s Island under a humanitarian initiative undertaken by the Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB).

The program was conducted from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the 20-bed government hospital in the island union, under the initiative of the St. Martin’s Island BOP.

During the program, a total of 385 poor and marginalised island residents received free medical treatment and necessary medicines. The hospital premises were lively as a large number of local people gathered to receive healthcare services.

In addition to medical assistance, sports equipment was distributed to students at 10 educational institutions on the island, creating enthusiasm among the children.

In addition, food items were distributed to 100 vulnerable fishing families who depend on the sea for their livelihoods.

The commanding officer of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) said that the BGB was working not only to protect the border but also as a symbol of trust and security for border residents.

He added that alongside efforts to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling, the force had continued various humanitarian activities aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of people living in border areas.
